What is agent readiness?
A growing share of web visits now come from AI systems rather than people with browsers - assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity fetching pages to answer questions, and autonomous agents completing tasks on a user's behalf. Agent readiness measures how easily those systems can discover, read, and correctly interpret your site. A site that is easy for agents to consume is more likely to be cited in AI answers, which is where an increasing amount of buying research happens.
What this tool checks
The check covers eight published standards that AI crawlers and agents actually use: whether your robots.txt exists and how it treats known AI bots (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and others), whether you publish an llms.txt file that summarizes your site for language models, whether your pages offer a markdown version through content negotiation, whether Link headers advertise machine-readable alternatives, and whether your pages carry JSON-LD structured data that lets an agent extract facts without guessing. None of these require a redesign - most are a single file or header change.
When we scanned 100,000 of the web's most-visited sites, the vast majority had a robots.txt, but only around one percent supported markdown for agents - meaning early adopters still get an edge.
